The draft indexing post closes at midnight on October 1st. See the announcement post for the 'Pain and Purpose: Speculative Fiction About Health' fest for details. (Think of the guidelines as a particular poetic structure--something to frame your piece but not constrict where you go with the content.) As per the 'speculative fiction' title, alternative pasts and presents as well as historical times are available as settings in addition to 'futuristic times'. Fanfiction and original fiction alike are welcome.

Suggested length is 300 - 1,000 words; if you have even a wisp of an idea, run with it!

Pain and Purpose: Speculative Fiction About Health is a multi-fandom/non-fandom short story challenge about a day in the life of a woman with an illness in the family. The woman may come from any background, any time, any place on Earth (or off it). It's a great opportunity for world-building in various canons, especially with minor characters.
